MembershipWe offer the chance for musicians to enjoy orchestral playing together on a regular basis, including performance in public concerts, while providing an inclusive and supportive environment for adult learners and returners who are keen to experience music-making in a friendly group.
We play a wide variety of music, mainly drawn from the classical and romantic repertoire but also including more modern works with wide appeal. We do not hold formal auditions for new members, but in order to gain the most enjoyment we suggest a minimum playing standard of Associated Board Grade 6 for wind and Grade 5 for strings, or equivalent practical experience. The orchestra is led by players with more experience. Check the vacancies to see if there is one for you, and if so, fill out the membership application form below to apply to join. We also need members to be involved with the administration of the orchestra. We are small in scale, but need a variety of important skills such as librarianship, web site maintenance, book-keeping and (not least) organisation and thoughtful leadership. Our relationships with other organisations in and around Winchester such as schools, churches and charities are vital to the orchestra; their renewal through members' personal relationships helps sustain the orchestra. So, if you can help with these supporting activities, please let us know. The membership subscription is £120 per year which can be prorated for mid-year joiners. We welcome players for 3 weeks trial free of charge. Rehearsal VenueWe rehearse on a Thursday evening from 7.30 - 9.30 pm at St Barnabas Church in Weeke (West Winchester). St Barnabus is a stately, modern building and we are privileged to use the main space of the church.

Vacancies - JANUARY 2022We currently have vacancies for the instruments listed below, but it is also useful for us to get to know musicians in our area who might be interested in playing in case a vacancy arises in the future. There may also be rehearsal opportunities which you can use to keep your instrumental skills honed.
